Devil
Earth
Capricorn
The Devil represents bondage, attachment, and the illusion of being trapped. It reflects situations where desire, fear, or habit creates a sense of limitation. While the restraints may feel real, they are often maintained by patterns of thought, behavior, or belief.
This card speaks to material focus, temptation, and the ways we give our power away — sometimes willingly.
At its most constructive (because even this card has a role), The Devil can represent:
Awareness of unhealthy patterns
Confronting what holds you back
Owning your desires without being controlled by them
Breaking free from limiting beliefs
Seeing through illusion
This is the energy of “I see what this is and I can choose differently.”
When this energy is off, The Devil can become:
Feeling stuck, trapped, or powerless
Addiction, obsession, or overindulgence
Toxic relationships or dynamics
Fear-based decisions
Believing you have no control when you actually do
This isn’t true limitation. It’s perceived powerlessness reinforced by habit or fear.
The Devil shows up when something has more control than it should.
It asks:
What are you attached to and why?
Is this actually holding you… or are you holding onto it?
What would it take to step out of this pattern?
This card doesn’t just point to restriction. It reveals your relationship to it.
The chained figures → bondage, but loosely bound (they can leave)
The Devil figure → temptation, control, illusion of power
The inverted pentagram → imbalance, disconnection from higher awareness
The torch → destructive influence, misused energy
The dark setting → lack of clarity, being stuck in shadow
